These study groups are open to intermediate or advanced students who know the nine types well and who would like the support of a small group for their knowledge of the system and for their own personal development. The format will include presentation, discussion, awareness work and daily practices.

One of the greatest contributions of the Enneagram is the mapping of character structure and the specific defenses used by each personality type. These defenses are automatic functions, which serve to protect us, yet at the same time they prevent deeper contact with others and our own inner selves. Without directly engaging the type defenses, no major change is possible.

Fortunately the Enneagram directs each of us to look at our patterns of idealization, our major avoidance, and the mechanism, which holds this dichotomy in place. Not only a way for us to "break out of the box" of our type, it is also crucial to the success and health of our personal relationships. The nine types are a wonderful expression of human diversity; the defenses, however, lock into place our mental fixations, our emotional passions and our body armor.

Along with subtypes, understanding the defense systems is the most powerful application of the Enneagram in daily life. Read a short article on defenses.

Our monthly study group also continues this fall: four Friday evenings - Sept. 10, Oct. 22, Nov. 12, Dec. 3. Cost: $140.  Here we explore applications of the enneagram in working with three centers, relationships, and managing the shifts in type structure that come with deep, inner work. New people (with lots of enneagram experience) are welcome if space is available. In Richmond CA. If interested, call Pat at 510-234-1600 or email: Pat@EnneagramWorldwide.com
